Meet Amber

Swimming Technical Official Lead

Sometimes a little ditzy, likes to have a laugh, has a lot happening in my little brain!

What is your fastest 100m time?

Can’t do one length let alone 100m!

If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?

Snake

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Beef with Black bean sauce - no onions and fried rice!

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?

Owning an interiors and homeware shop selling flowers and vintage stuff!

If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?

National Treasure!

Do you have any hidden talents?

I can turn my eyelids inside out!

I’ve been involved with the club for around 5 years now and started timekeeping during galas as my first role. I am now doing the work for Judge 1 level (which as a club, we need a lot more of!) as well as overseeing all the STO (Swimming Technical Officials) across the club. I have 3 boys but only 1 swimmer which means on multiple nights a week I am doing a lot of drop offs!

With 3 kids, committee role, my job and being chair of the kids parent council, it’s tough to have time to do other things - however I do love volunteering with the swimming - it’s a great bunch of people so it is easy to do!

I work in a GP surgery during the day and love decorating and renovating in between all that! Love a box set but there are too many to mention - let me know if any recommendations that will steal me away from reality for a bit!!

Come and speak to anyone that you see volunteering. It doesn’t matter on your knowledge of swimming - we have a range of volunteers who go from not being able to swim themselves to others who were champions at swimming! There will always be something you can do to help support!

I was a swimmer when I was younger and have always loved it! I was really happy when Ashton chose swimming over football as it allowed me to get involved again. I’ve just gradually been more involved and as other volunteers have moved on, it was a natural progression to take on a committee role!

Volunteering with GASC allows me to be able to be part of something that creates an environment for kids to do what they love. What people might not realise is the club and galas can’t go ahead without volunteers. Without people willing to use their spare time to run these events, they wouldn’t happen! And if you are going to be there anyway…..why not do something really useful!

I don’t think there is another club that has as many devoted volunteers as we do! Everyone does what they can in order to strive to be and do the best. The club has made huge progress with this recently!

Good teams become Great ones when members trust each other enough to surrender the ‘me’ for ‘we’!
